Storage Tips: Do’s & Don’ts

Use a disc lock to help protect your possessions.
Place something on the concrete as a barrier between your possessions and the concrete. Pallets work well as do scrap wood or plastic bins. This prevents your possessions from getting wet or mildewy.
Use traps or chemical bait (e.g D-Con) to keep pests away. Although we have traps around the outside of the units, extra prevention on the inside will help keep your possessions safe.

Don’t use padlocks. They are easier to break off or remove compared to disc locks.
Don’t use cardboard boxes directly on the concrete. Although our storage units are built well, there is always a possibility that water could come in. Protect your possessions. Use plastic storage bins, shelving or wood/pallets to keep your things off the concrete floor.
Don’t store dangerous chemicals or materials in the building. These include but are not limited to: asbestos (& products containing asbestos), gasoline, kerosene, propane tanks, oil (motor and lamp), corrosives, paint, cleaners, narcotics, fireworks, explosives, or toxic, hazardous, or biological waste.
Don’t store perishable items. This includes animal feed.
